Hire Node.js developers who have run services in production

Centricone places backend engineers who have operated Node services, not only written them — the difference shows up the first time something leaks memory under load.

Screening

What we check that a keyword match does not

Every candidate sits a live assessment with an engineer who does this work. For this role, that conversation covers:

  • API design: versioning, error contracts, and idempotency on retryable operations
  • Async reasoning — where the event loop blocks and how they would find it
  • Database access patterns, including the N+1 they should recognise on sight
  • Production instincts: logging, tracing, and what they would alert on

What they do once they are in your team

01

Building and maintaining REST or GraphQL services

02

Integration work between systems that were never designed to talk

03

Performance and memory investigation under real load

04

Queue, retry, and dead-letter handling for work that must not be lost

Which level you actually need

Most briefs ask for senior by default. Sometimes that is right; often the work is better served by a mid-level engineer and a clearer specification.

Mid-level

Delivers endpoints and services within an established architecture, with review on data modelling and failure handling.

Senior

Designs service boundaries and data access, and is the person who diagnoses the production problem at 2am.

Lead

Owns backend architecture across services, sets standards, and carries delivery accountability.

Questions about hiring Node.js developers

Not sure what you need? Describe the work and we’ll tell you which role fills it.

Effectively all of them, and we assess in it by default. If your codebase is plain JavaScript we will tell you honestly that the ergonomics differ, but it is not a barrier.
Most can deploy and debug their own services competently. If you need someone who owns pipelines and infrastructure as their primary job, hire a DevOps engineer instead — we would rather place the right specialisation.
Say so up front and we screen for it. Working inside a large untyped codebase is a different skill from greenfield work, and engineers who enjoy it are identifiable — we would rather match on that than discover the mismatch in week three.
